Liebster Award Nomination! Exciting!

December 19, 2013

Wow, I cannot believe it... My humble little blog is not only being read by people but it has now been nominated for the Liebster Award!
The Liebster award is for blogs with under 200 followers, I guess it is to help people hear about these smaller blogs and, in my case, it has helped me find a BRILLIANT blog that I might never have come across otherwise.

I was nominated by Sophie at That Allurement Gal which is an excellent little beauty and lifestyle blog. In quite a few of her posts Sophie looks at beauty from the inside out - which I am a BIG advocate of! I love it when I find a blog that rings true with me and holds a lot of the same values that I do. So, nice to meet you Sophie and thank you for my nomination!

So, onto the rules of the award:
  1. The Liebster award is given by bloggers to other bloggers with less than 200 followers
  2. You must share 11 random facts about yourself
  3. Nominees must link back to the blog who nominated them
  4. Choose 10 new bloggers you would love to nominate for this award and link them in this post
  5. Create 10 new Liebster questions for your nominees to answer
  6. You must go to the blogs of your nominees to notify them
11 Facts About Me

I have a degree in English Literature. I studied for my degree through the Open University which meant it took six years and I worked full time and/or was having my baby/looking after my young daughter whilst getting my degree! Not easy but very rewarding.

Hubby and I got engaged 3 months after meeting, got married 1 year later and are still going strong 7 years on.

This means I was just 19 when I got married! This was fully supported by my family and anyone who knew both my hubby and I together but I got a lot of negativity from acquaintances... well, proved them wrong didn't we!

In another life, I used to be an Ann Summers party organiser. (I loved it and made some decent money from it!)

My daughter is my everything - she makes me laugh and smile so many times every single day.

When I am away from my little girl I physically ache for her, I miss her that much.

I hope to be a teacher one day, when I'm in the right frame of mind and ready to work full time again.

I have many temp office jobs since my daughter was born but I currently work part time in a high end menswear shop - it's not exactly my dream job but the team there are lovely so I actually don't mind working there.

When I was younger and people used to ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up my answers included; vet, teacher, journalist and mermaid.

Ironically I always used to think that I would never get married (who wants to be tied to one person, right??) and I certainly didn't see myself having children! Now I'm pretty much a full time wife and mother... and I LOVE it! I feel like it's my true calling :-)

I am a bit of a feminist (although I prefer to think of myself as an 'equalitist' as the title feminist carries some connotations that you think women are better than men) and when I was studying my A Levels my sexist English teacher used to ALWAYS mark me down a grade or two as he hated my opinions so much. (p.s. I went on to pass with top grades, so there Mr Dodd!)

So, onto the questions I have been set:

Who inspires you?
Hmm... I try to find inspiration within to be honest - I hope that doesn't sound big headed as it's not meant to. I also find inspiration in general things like good news stories, good things happening to people I know, etc.

What was the first beauty product that blew you away?
First ever? Gosh! When I was a teenager I was in love with the YSL Touche Eclat but I don't really know why now, I think it was the first time I fell for the hype! And it has happened a NUMBER of times since!

What is your favourite make up brand?
I am in a bit of a transition with my make up, I am discovering new more natural options. I do love my new Bare Minerals 'get started kit' but the rest of the bits I've tried haven't massively impressed me. Benecos seems good, they are very reasonably priced for a green brand!

Which country would you like to travel to, to discover new beauty products to try?
This is difficult! America seems like an obvious option for actual products but I would love to go back to Sri Lanka (where I got married) as that is where I was introduced to coconut oil (but I didn't know how to use it back then, it just confused me! Fail!) I also love the ethos out there of using spices, oils, foods and so on in your beauty, hair and skin care.

What is your favourite nail polish shade?
Ah man, I don't want to be a spoil sport but I don't really wear nail polish! I do love a french manicure to look more polished. I love nail varnish on other people, especially deep plum colours at this time of year.

Who is your top beauty guru?
Kassie from Cloudy Apples (click here to discover her on YouTube)
She shares all my natural ideals, makes a lot of things herself, talks a lot about beauty from within (i.e. confidence, the foods you eat, looking after your body, etc) AND she is absolutely fricking stunning! I am happy to take beauty advice from someone who looks like her! And, she seems as beautiful inside as she is out :-)

What inspired you to start your blog?
I actually started my blog for my friends. I would tell them about all the wonderful things I had learnt or a great DIY recipie I had found then they would want to know more. I would often have to write things down for them and in the end I decided to write them down in a blog... people I'd never met started to read it, I got a bit of good feedback and I was away! I love sharing information with people and hearing back about their discoveries so it seemed perfect to blog (and do YouTube).

Which high street clothing brand do you love?
I do love me some Asda clothes (as you may already know!) but I also shop in New Look and Next quite a lot... that is, when I get chance!

What is your guilty pleasure?
Do I want to admit this? I get sucked into the world of YouTube and spend ridiculous amounts of time watching videos on there!

What is your lipstick of choice at the moment?
I haven't found a natural one that I am happy with yet so I'm just wearing my DIY lip balm at the mo.

Phew, I feel like I have given you my life story!! Sorry if it's TMI!

Now, onto...

My 10 questions:
  1. What is your favourite thing about blogging?
  2. What is your least favourite thing... if you have one?
  3. How long have you been blogging?
  4. Who are your favourite bloggers?
  5. How do you choose what to write about?
  6. What's your dream job? (strictly hypothetical, if nothing was standing in your way)
  7. Favourite online store? (for anything: fashion, beauty, etc)
  8. Where would you love to go on holiday?
  9. Favourite TV show? (now or ever, your choice)
  10. Favourite time of year and why?
My Nominees:
(FYI - I went by number of BlogLovin followers)
  1. Jen's Green Skincare
  2. Amber's Beauty Talk
  3. Belle Nouveau
  4. A Beauty Quark
  5. Live Green Beauty
  6. Lexi Lazaro
  7. Subject Beauty (only JUST under 200 on BlogLovin!)
I didn't go up to the full 10 as I wanted to award the right people for the right reasons, I am still discovering new blogs everyday. Also, a lot of the blogs I am currently loving have more than 200 followers.

Thanks again to Sophie for tagging me with this award, it has been great to discover your blog and the others you nominated.

Well done to anyone that has read to the end of this post!! It is of epic proportions, I do apologise!
