VIP in the NEXT Sale

December 20, 2013

Oh my goodness... There are a few times a year that I get really excited... and often a sale is the reason! Sad but very, very true.

Now, this is not strictly related to my 'All Natural Aspirations' but it is a big part of me - I love buying things when they are reduced. I rarely buy things full price, in fact.

I am lucky enough to be invited to a VIP slot at the next online sale, I have been using my VIP slots for years and they keep inviting me back as I always buy loads!
How it works:
We all know about the infamous NEXT boxing day sale... It starts at 4am (or some other ridiculous time) and shoppers queue outside waiting to get their hands on some amazing bargains as everything is half price or less. Well... I've been there done that and got the frost bite! (Okay, that's an exaggeration but it was cold!)

The online sale has all the benefits of the normal sale (everything is half price or less) but you get to shop from the comfort of your own home - no queueing outside, no other shoppers knocking you over, no searching through rails... It is so much better.

How I shop the sale:
I get an email asking me if I want to book a VIP slot... erm yeah! Course I do! and I always jump on the email as soon as it comes in, the slots are booked on a first come first serve basis and there is limited stock so you want to book an early slot to get the best bargains.

Then, I look through the sale preview pages. This way you can take your time to look at what is available to buy, I spend literally hours browsing through every single page.

When I see any item I am remotely interested in (and the right size is available) I copy paste that item into a word document. I make sure I copy the title, picture, price, code and available sizes. If I have time, I wait a day before looking through the word document again, I whittle it down to a more reasonable number but I still keep more in there than I have the budget for.

When the day of the sale comes I make sure I have email and text alerts set up (Next email you to remind you) plus I set an alarm on my phone! It is so important to be logged in, poised ready to go as soon as your time slot starts. I'm not even joking when I say being just 5 minutes late to the slot can cost you some of your favourite items. (Can you tell I take sale shopping very seriously?!)

Finances
I have a Next directory account so anything I buy goes on there. I order everything I like, in different sizes if need be, that item won't be available again and I would hate to miss out because I ordered the wrong size.

What is best to buy in the sale?
I have a 4 year old daughter, I went to my first Next sale when she was just 3 weeks old and I have been shopping the online sale since then. For my daughter I stock up on things in larger sizes - jeans and dresses especially as these things are expensive usually. I also buy things like next year's Christmas jumper, christmas decorations, household items like towels, etc.

For myself I buy jumpers, cardigans, jeans, etc. The best purchase I have ever made was a floor length Lipsy dress for under half price, just £65 for a really classic piece. I will keep that for years and years bringing it out for formal events and weddings. I know, it's not ideal to wear the same thing over and over but I really don't have the budget for a new outfit each time, not any more! Plus, you rarely go to a wedding with the same group of people there more than once... unless all your cousins get married in one year?! Because of my small family and the fact that all my friends are settled down now we only go to about one wedding a year.

What am I buying this year?

Here are some of the items I am planning to buy, nothing extravagant this year but some pretty pieces in there:

New outfit for me:

...and of course a cute little Christmas decoration that I will keep for next year :-)

Do you do the Next sale? Online or in store? Any other sales that you never miss?
