#NoBuyJanuary - Week 4 Update

January 24, 2014

This week has been a close one. I have put multiple purchases into virtual baskets and then not 'checked out' - I really want more from Lily Lolo, I want loads more DIY ingredients as I have lots of great ideas... I am trying to plan things out, shop around first, etc. #NoBuyJanuary is very good for me, I am so glad I signed up!

As I teeter on the edge of (another) failure I wanted to boost myself by looking at all the things that I regularly make myself instead of buying, here is a list of my regular DIY projects:

  • All Cleaning Products including:
  • Kitchen cleaner
  • Bathroom cleaner
  • Heavy duty de-greaser
  • Oven cleaner
  • Disinfectant
  • Toilet bowl cleaner
  • Glass/Window cleaner
  • Sink Un-blocker
  • Lots of personal care items including:
  • Moisturiser
  • Cleanser
  • Leave in conditioner (hair)
  • Hand wash
  • Body wash
  • Hand sanitiser
  • Lip balm
  • Dry shampoo
  • 'nappy' cream for Maddie
  • Spot treatment
  • Bath bombs
  • Make up remover
  • Body scrub
  • Lip scrub
  • Sun cream
  • Plus more planned!

I re-use and re-purpose a lot of things on a daily basis, I buy things in the sale where ever possible to keep costs low... I budget and track household spending very closely every single day/week/month.

I do have a weakness for 'pretty' things and buying treats for myself (and the family) but I am also very controlled and measured in other ways.

I hope that #NoBuyJanuary will be the kick start I wanted to help me curb my frivolous spending in the areas that I do fall short.

I have done well so far, hopefully there will be another positive update again next week in the FINAL instalment of #NoBuyJanuary!

How are you getting on?

  2. You have done really well, it has been such a good month for reassessing spending for me and I may have to go back to making more myself, at the moment I just use Dr Bronners for most cleaning! Xx

    1. Thanks Ana! I may not have stuck to a spending ban but I have still achieved some great things... I love Dr Bronners for most things! Works across the board really doesn't it. I mainly make everything out of vinegar, washing up liquid, lemon, bicarb of soda or a mixture of those ingredients!
Thanks so much for reading and commenting :-) xx

  3. It sounds like you´re doing really well controlling your spending. I was wondering whether you have written a post with your recipe for your lip balm (although I quite like the idea of the honey ones in Ana´s post) and for your bath bomb.

    1. Hi, I've asked my techie person to try and recover that bath bomb post for me, they are taking a while so if they don't get it to me this week I will re-write it and put it up asap.
The lip balm one will be coming soon, I hope to film and photograph it next week so watch this space :-)
The ones on Ana's post did look great didn't they! Maybe both ;-)
Thanks for reading and commenting, lovely to hear from you

    1. Maybe February would be a better month. January is too tempting with all the sales around.

    2. Thanks Zoe! I've tried really had but I don't think I've done really well! All the other bloggers have done well! Agree with Noelia, February is probably going to be easier. I am a huuuge sucker for a sale!! Thanks both for reading and commenting, Rach xx
