Konjac Sponge - What do I think?

February 11, 2014

This post should have gone up at the same time as my YouTube video (click here) but I obviously made some kind of mistake with the scheduling and the video went up last night while I was at work instead of next week when I would have been ready!

Konjac sponges have had a lot of attention from bloggers over the past few months. Normally if something has a lot of hype I avoid it for as long as possible or just ignore it completely. The sponges intrigued me though, they are made from 100% pure plant fibre and are often impregnated with different types of clay.

When you wet your sponge and rub it on your face you get the cleansing benefits from the plant fibre and the clay as well. This is what sold it to me - I know first hand how beneficial clay is and love my weekly masks.

These things are hard to photograph so I borrowed this picture from abeautifulworld.co.uk!

I chose the pink clay one as it is for sensitive skin and I wanted to start off gentle. Next time I have my eye on the green clay one as it helps balance out oily skin and remove more impurities.

What are the claims?

100% Natural Vegetable Fibre
Refines Pores
Gently exfoliates
Deeply cleanses
Removes water based make up
Safe for the delicate eye area
Skin looks radiant and rejuvenated
Suitable for sensitive skin types

You can use it with or without a cleanser - I use mine without.

What do I think?

I have been using my sponge every evening for over a month. I went into this with very low expectations and thought I would just try it for a week to see if I noticed anything... but within a few days I was hooked!

It is so easy to use, it doesn't feel like any extra hassle at all although it is an extra step in my routine.

I do feel and see an improvement in my skin - the first time I moisturised after using the sponge I immediately noticed that my skin felt plumper and softer, it was amazing! I could feel the difference as I patted in my oil.

I have noticed that my pores and black heads have improved, not gone of course but better than they were. TMI alert - Across the underside of my chin I would always have small black and white heads but within two weeks of using the sponge they were completely gone! Those nasty little things have been an awkward problem of mine for a good few months, I am so glad they're gone!

Would I buy it again?

Yes! It is not expensive, lasts for 3-6 months and makes a real difference to my skin, I am excited to buy it again in a different colour.

How much does it cost and where can you buy it?
Mine was reduced in a sale to around £5, they currently sell for £6.99 at A Beautiful World and seem to be £7.99 elsewhere.

There are other Konjac sponges around, you can look into them yourself - I haven't used them so cannot personally recommend them - I'm sure they're pretty much the same though.

Have you tried a Konjac sponge? What did you think?

    2. I really wanted to love these but I too was left a bit meh! such a shame because I loved the idea, tried the charcoal and the red clay. I still have the green clay one it the packet. I prefer my muslin :) But alas some things don't work the same for everyone xx

  5. Just had to re-read ur post on this again (and my comment!) as I always trust your judgement (still loving the femmecup!). I'm going to order one tomorrow, as I am having crazy drama with the surface of my skin with bumps and feel like my skin would benefit from it. Many thanks once again for your review xx

    1. Aw bless you, that's lovely to hear. I do pride myself in only ever talking about things that REALLY work for me so hopefully if they are good for me they will work for others too, I have just bought a second sponge ready to replace my original one so it passes the re-purchase test with flying colours. I do find it very effective, I hope it works well for you too! Will look forward to hearing all about it soon :-) xx

  6. It's surprisingly good isn't it!?! I got one in my Love Lula Box subscription, thought it was going to be a bit rubbish but turned out to be one of my favourite items! I didn't realise you could get variation though... I'll have to try out the different kinds of clay! xxx
