Natural Teeth Whitening Methods

May 17, 2014

I feel like I have a great, natural teeth whitening routine that works well for me so I wanted to share it with you!

Prevention is better than a cure

It is always best to try and avoid discolouration and yellowing wherever possible. Obviously it is impossible to avoid it altogether but there are some steps you can take to reduce your risks and slow down the process.
  • Avoid dark drinks - red wine, coke, coffee, tea etc (naughty tanin will ruin your pearly whites!)
  • Don't smoke (for so many reasons OTHER than tooth discolouration)
  • Brush regularly and thoroughly

Electric Toothbrush

I bought myself an electric toothbrush for Christmas (yeah, I'm that cool) and I'm so glad I did! I've been on and off electric toothbrushes for years but I've never owned a really good one so I never stuck at it. I bought a slightly more expensive one when it was on half price offer and I love it!

I've noticed a big improvement in my teeth since using the electric toothbrush, they are cleaner, whiter and my gum health has improved. I've always passed all dentist checks with flying colours so I imagine that an electric toothbrush would work wonders if you are having any issues.

Whitening toothpaste

I love my whitening toothpaste. I don't know how much it really whitens my teeth but it works well in every other way so I'm really happy with it.

Oil Pulling

This is an excellent teeth whitening method. I see instant results and my teeth feel so clean. This method isn't for everyone but if you are interested to find out more I wrote a post all about it *here*.

Banana Peel

I've been using this method for a few months now, I cover it in more detail in my *three ways with a banana* and in my video but essentially you rub the inside of a banana peel across your teeth. I do this about once every three to four weeks but if you are trying to undo some damage you could do this about once a week for a few weeks.

And there you have it, the natural ways I keep my teeth white. Do you have any tips or tricks to share? Do you do any of the above?

  1. Great post! I do oil pulling and sometimes I add a bit of turmeric on my toothpaste and brush my teeth with it, makes a real difference if you do it regularly :) x

  3. Great tips, Rach! I bought the AloeDent toothpaste based on your recommendation and I love it! :) I'm reseaching for a good electric toothbrush, which one do you use? The oil pulling is on and off for me (so difficult to wake up earlier in the morning when you watch movies till midnight :P), but I can tell is effective. Love your blog and your videos! xx

    1. Thank you... and so glad you like it! I bought mine on a whim as it was reduced in my local supermarket but it turned out to be really good, I like it. I've had two other electric toothbrushes over the years, always cheap to midrange ones and this one is much better and was around £20. I currently use an Oral B Professional Care toothbrush, I am not sure if it has a specific model number as I don't have the box anymore but at least that gives you a rough idea.
Thanks so much for your lovely, kind words :-) and thanks for reading!
      Rach xx
