Battle Of The Mineral Foundations

June 14, 2014

The first ever mineral foundation I purchased was bareMinerals and I loved it! I still do love the finish of it but it's not the best colour match for me and I can find much more affordable options when it comes to purchasing a replacement. Also, I'd rather support a smaller more ethical company (i.e. completely cruelty free, indie or UK based, etc)

I have quite a few excellent options to choose from, there is no shortage of high quality options if mineral foundation is your thing. I've got three brands to talk about today, but there are so many others out there! The three I mention all offer a sample service.

Lily Lolo

This was actually my least favourite of the three for a number of reasons. It is the most expensive of the ones I am looking at, it had the worst staying power and it seemed to have less coverage. Having said all that is is still a fair price, it provided a reasonable level of coverage, I got an excellent colour match and I was pretty happy with it - it just didn't hold up against the other two.

They have a total of 18 different shades across a reasonable range of skin tones.

£13.49 for 10g

The All Natural Face

This one blows Lily Lolo out of the water in a number of ways - much larger shade selection, different size jar options (or you can buy a refill baggie), far less expensive, excellent coverage, lasts all day... it's great basically!

They offer over 40 different shade across a wide range of skin tones.

£7.50 for 10g

Honeypie Minerals

This is my personal winner, it is a close call between this one and TANF but I want to support a local, UK company. This one is very reasonably priced, a lot less than Lily Lolo but much better coverage and lasting power. Although HoneyPie don't have the same shade selection as TANF they do have my perfect shade so I'm happy.

They only have 15 different colours but they do cover a broad range of skin tones, more so than Lily Lolo.

£10.99 for 10g

See my comparison table below for my scores on the doors!

So, although TANF scores higher, this is only because it has more shades available. This doesn't sway me though as Honeypie do have the right shade for me so selection is a moot point.

And, I must say that although Lily Lolo has scored low in comparison to the others this is not to say that it is bad, it is a very good foundation but I like the other two better.

Have you tried any of these foundations? What did you think? I'd love to hear if there is anything you think I should try! It seems to be taking fooooorrevver to finish my bareMinerals!

I love the Bare Minerals ready, I was looking at TANF one the other day so glad it has the Rachel seal of approval I may get this to try once one of my other bases runs low it's fantastic to see that they offer a wide shade range too as I often struggle! :) x

    1. Luckily I never tried NARS before the green switch over, it sounds like the kind of brand you fall in love with! If/when you do try TANF make sure you buy their samples first, under £5 for everything in your shade (light/medium or medium/dark) so you will DEFO find the right colour :-) xx

  4. Awesome post! I have wanted to try Lily Lolo for a long time- I too was a Bare Minerals person before I realized they weren't so "bare." I am using Alima Pure now, which I love- can you get that over in the UK? Affordable and sheer! - Kathryne

    1. Yay, thanks! I think we can get a small amount of the Alima pure range on certain websites (maybe Birchbox??) but it is very expensive... it's probably more affordable and widely available for you! We are going to a shop in London that stocks Alima Pure for the blogger meet up in July so I will defo check it out :-) thanks for the tip! xx

  5. Lily Lolo never won me over, I couldn't find a colour I liked. Honeypie is nice but I'm stuck on Everyday Minerals, can't be without it :-)

    1. I haven't tried anything but a blush and bronzer from Everyday Minerals but they didn't grab me (nothing wrong with them either though!) but I know you can get hold of the samples of EM quite easily so I will try before I commit to buying a brand... gotta take these things seriously ;-) xx

    1. I like Honey pie generally as a brand, very well rounded (i.e. decent packaging, good prices, affordable shipping, reasonable colour selection, etc) but TANF is like an affordable make up superstore! xx
