Wimbledon DIY - Strawberries & Cream Facial

July 02, 2014

If you're British then you cannot escape the fact that it is Wimbledon fortnight. If you are not British but enjoy tennis then you may well be aware of this tournament too.

I am not much of a tennis fan but I am certainly a fan of all the things that Wimbledon makes me think of... sitting in the sun, eating fresh strawberries (with cream), drinking Pimms, not being surprised when the British player is knocked out in the earliest stages... and so on.

In homage to this tournament and it's links to British Summertime, I came up with a DIY that is a twist on the British summertime treat: Strawberries and Cream.

Strawberries:

I always marvel at how beautiful a ripe strawberry looks and smells, I don't think any other fruit has quite the same effect on me! You guys know I like to put all my favourite foods on my face, so why not this one??

Strawberries are not only yummy and full of goodness for your tummy they are also great for your skin too! They contain brightening vitamin C, renewing salicylic acid, heaps of antioxidants and are natural exfoliant too.

Strawberries will help lighten and brighten your skin while also helping to reduce scarring (salicylic acid) and even have anti-ageing effects thanks to the free-radical-fighting antioxidants and the collaging encouraging properties of vitamin C!

Did you know that eating a cup of strawberries gives you 100% of your RDA of vitamin C?

'Cream':

Creamed coconut (or coconut milk) is rich in vitamins C, E, B1, B3, B5, B6, Iron, selenium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus! Phew!

When applied topically coconut milk is an excellent moisturiser, it is full of fats and oils that repair, soothe and moisturise skin, especially dry skin.

Method:

I decided to use organic creamed coconut so that I could grate it into the mashed strawberries and not make the mixture too runny. However... at this time of year the coconut cream isn't solid it is runny, the perfect consistency actually!

  • Take 1-2 Strawberries
  • Mash with a fork
  • Grate in 1 tablespoon of creamed coconut/pour in a dollop of cream

  • Apply to a clean face, enjoying the delicious smell
  • Leave for 15-20 minutes
  • Eat some strawberries & drink some coconut milk (the coconut cream can be made into milk by adding water)
  • Wash off the mask, using the small seeds to exfoliate as you do so.
  • Tone and moisturise as normal (optional)
  • Enjoy soft, supple, bright and younger looking skin!

Thanks very much for reading, I hope you are in a very summery mood now... with super soft and glowing skin.
