Oh! Organics

August 23, 2014

"All our products are made in small batches to incorporate as many active plant constituents as possible and each batch is made with love and care."

I met Michele, owner and brains behind Oh! Organics at the Love Natural, Love Organic show and was instantly impressed with her enthusiasm, knowledge and friendly nature.

I couldn't stop looking at the Oh! Organics stand, being the silly girly girl that I am I loved all the pretty pinks and purples. Too often natural and organic brands are packaged and marketed differently to 'mainstream' products and wrapped up in green and browns.

Whilst talking to Michele I found out all about her journey to this point (over 8 years) which you can read here on her website. I love when a brand or product is born from a passion and a need/requirement. They tend to work best!

All Oh! Organics products are vegetarian (accredited and approved) with many of them being Vegan (also accredited and approved).

"At Oh! Organics we specialise in making luxurious cosmetics, soaps, lip balms and candles. Our products are not only luxurious but natural, ethical and affordable."

One quick thing to mention that really impressed me about the packaging is that the labels are printed on 'TerraSkin' which means no trees are harmed and no water is used, truly 'eco' labels. I love when a company looks at every aspect of their product and tries to reduce it's impact where possible. Michele clearly concerns herself with sustainability and sources all her ingredients as locally, fairly and ethically as possible.

I tested out the Toner and Moisturiser from the Melissa range and my friend tested out the Rose range as she has slightly more mature skin than me.

I will quickly cover the two I tried:

Melissa Toner*

I am not much of a toner person, I rarely reach for it and I have never purchased one myself but at £7.50 for a 50ml bottle I will be purchasing a replacement when I need one.

This has a lovely soft and subtle smell, it sprays beautifully and evenly. I either spray this directly onto my face or onto a reusable cotton round.

I think the packaging is quite luxurious for such an affordable product.

INGREDIENTS: Melissa Officinalis Flower/Leaf/Stem Water, Citrus Aurantium Amara Flower Water, Pelargonium Graveolens Water, Glycerin, Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerine, Sorbic Acid.

Melissa Face Moisturiser*

I am not much of a moisturiser person either! I generally favour oils, I don't have any trouble with them soaking in before applying make up so I don't really feel a need for a moisturiser in my skin care routine... but if I did want to buy one I would seriously consider this one.

The texture of it is beautiful, it applies so smoothly and evenly. Some natural and organic moisturisers 'pull' a bit and seem to dry out quickly but this one doesn't do that at all.

Although the smell isn't something that I would consider a particular selling point it isn't bad and certainly not over whelming and doesn't hang around so it is no issue to me. I appreciate that it is a natural smell and no perfumes added in, that is more important to me than it being a nice smell.

This is priced at £19.95 for a 60ml jar that will last you a long time! A little goes a long way, especially if you use the toner first.

INGREDIENTS: Aqua, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil, Mangifera Indica Seed Butter, Theobroma Cacao Seed Butter, Cetyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Rosa Rubiginosa Seed Oil Glyceryl Stearate, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Tocopherol, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Melissa Officinalis Flower/Leaf/ Stem Extract, Actinidia Deliciosa Oil, Borago Officinalis Oil, Salvia Hispanica Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Oil, Jasminum Officinale Oil, Cymbopogon Citratus Leaf Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara Flower Oil, Citral, Citronellol, Geraniol, Limonene, Linalool, Eugenol, Farnesol

Overall it is not something I would buy again myself but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone with the right skin type (young, possibly problem skin) and I have done so! My neighbour asked what I would suggest for a teenager and I pointed them in the direction of the Oh! Organics website, specifically the Melissa range.

(FYI, you can request samples)

Bubblegum Lip Balm

I purchased this myself whilst at the show. I am so glad I did! I love the smell, it so bubblegum!

This was on special offer for the show but the normal price is £3.15 and I will certainly be replacing mine without hesitation.

My 'main' lip balm is still my DIY one but I am reaching for it less and less since getting this lip balm and my Hurraw ones.

Ingredients: Sweet Almond oil, Candelilla wax, Aloe butter & Bubblegum flavour.

Rose Range

Now, onto the range that my friend reviewed on my behalf. Let me first tell you a bit about my friend, Tracy. She is in her early thirties and is a busy working Mum. I'm sure she won't mind me saying that she has never been one for an extensive skin care routine although I have to say you wouldn't know as her skin looks great!

Tracy has been using the products since early July so we will be able to give you a full, fair and detailed review. I also used the products for a week myself just to get a little bit of a feel for them and some first impressions.

If you want to see the products 'in action' then you can watch them in my video, click here.

Rose toner*

This is priced the same as the Melissa toner, it is also £7.50 for a 50ml bottle and it sprays just as evenly and as well.

I personally prefer the Melissa toner but then it is more aimed at my skin type. Tracy has never been much of a 'cleanse, tone, moisturise' person and so she was initially underwhelmed by the toner as she expected to be able to see or feel it doing something but she did like how refreshing this felt.

INGREDIENTS: Rosa damascena flower water, Pelargonium graveolens flower water, Boswellia Carterii water, Citrus Aurantium Amara Flower Water, Hamamelis virginiana water, Glycerine, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

Rose Face Moisturiser*

I think this extract from the website explains the ingredients well, you can tell that they have been chosen with care and lots of thought: "This moisturiser is made using infusions and decoctions of rose petals and rose infused sweet almond oil. It also contains organic cocoa butter and mango butter. I have also included Rosehip seed oil, Borage oil,Thistle oil, Chia Seed oil, Jojoba oil, Wheatgerm oil and Gold of Pleasure oil, Lupine peptides & Hyaluronic acid. To all of these lovely goodies for your skin I have added essential oils of Frankincense, Rose, Geranium and Neroli."

This retails at £24 for a 60ml jar which I think is extremely reasonable considering the high quality of ingredients, the packaging and the fact that this is handmade.

Another thing to note about this moisturiser is, "The Hyaluronic Acid I have used is made by producing enzymes from a bacteria-based biofermentation process and NOT sourced from poultry (roosters' combs), as are many others."

I enjoyed this moisturiser and so did Tracy, we both found that it absorbed well and did not leave your face feeling greasy, you could easily apply make up straight after using the moisturiser.

Tracy told me that she enjoyed using this product but wasn't overly keen on the smell. When we talked about it I am guessing that she is more used to artificial smells in mainstream products and therefore this one seems very different to her.

INGREDIENTS: Aqua, Prunus Amygdalus dulcis oil, Mangifera Indica seed butter, Theobroma cacao seed butter, Glyceryl Stearate, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Cetyl alcohol, Glycerin, Tocopherol, Rosa Rubiginosa seed oil, Benzyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid, Glycerine, Sorbic Acid,  Rosa damascena flower extract, Hydrolyzed Lupine protein, Sodium Hyaluronate, Carthamus Tinctorius Seed Oil, Salvia Hispanica Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil, Triticum Vulgare Germ Oil, Borago officinalis Seed Oil, Camelina Sativa Seed Oil, Boswellia Carterii Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara Flower Oil, Limonene, Linalool, Farnesol, Geraniol, Citral, Citronellol

Rose Facial Serum Oil

When I tried out this range for a week before passing it on to Tracy this was the star of the show for me, I love this oil! At only £19.95 for a 30ml pump bottle I am seriously thinking of purchasing this for myself... but... so many oils, so little time.

Tracy got on well with this too, she thought that it had a very pleasant smell, soaked in nicely and did not leave you feeling greasy.

Ingredients: Prunus Amygdalus dulcis oil, Tocopherol, Rosa Rubiginosa seed oil, Hydrolyzed Lupine protein, Sodium Hyaluronate, Carthamus Tinctorius (Thislte) Seed Oil, Salvia Hispanica (Chia seed) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Triticum Vulgare Germ (Wheatgerm) Oil, Borago officinalis (Borage) Seed Oil, Camelina Sativa (Gold of Pleasure)  Seed  Oil, Boswellia Carterii (Frankincense)  Oil, Pelargonium Graveolens( Geranium) Oil, Citrus Aurantium Amara Flower (Neroli) Oil, *Limonene,* Linalool, *Farnesol, * Geraniol,* Citral, *Citronellol   (*constituents of essential oils)

Both Tracy and I really like the presentation of these products, the packaging is very good quality and we both agree that a lot of thought has gone into every aspect of the aesthetics.

Personally I am a big fan of this brand due to the care and attention that has clearly gone into it. I love the ethos and attitude behind the products, ingredients and packaging and I think Michele's passion is evident in the efficiency of this range. Not only that but I appreciate and applaud the reasonable price point that this brand offers, I will certainly be purchasing more from Oh! Organics in the future.
