One In, One Out - Project Pan

August 06, 2014

If you've been reading my blog for more than 5 minutes then you will know that I like make up and I like buying 'things'. Honestly, I think it is a bit of an issue but we won't go too much into that today! On a serious note I do know that being a mindless consumer, buying anything and everything is not a good way to operate.

I've been looking at my make up collection and feeling over whelmed.

Much as I love make up the ironic thing is I don't wear it that much. I wear light make up 1-2 times a week, sometimes not even that much now that it is summer.

I've decided to implement a strict 'one in one out' policy. On YouTube this is called 'projct pan' and the idea is you choose 10-20 products to use up and you don't buy any new make up until you have used those chosen products up.

I think (I hope) my new policy is more realistic, I am 'allowed' to replace any full size item that runs out. I am also 'allowed' to buy something if it is completely different to anything else in my collection - although I will try to keep that to a minimum.

I also want to use up, pass on or throw out all the little samples I have of make up and skin care.

I am on a mission now, I want to make the most of what I have! This project applies to my skincare, haircare and make up although I have only featured make up in this post/video.

Here are the items I am trying to use up or make the most of at the moment, I have popped them in a basket and that is what I will be doing my make up from.

The only thing I don't have in the basket is eye shadows, I am no where near finishing any eye shadows and they aren't going out of date any time soon so I don't see an urgent need to use them up. I will just any eye shadow I fancy whenever I do my make up.

BareMinerals Primer (goes OOD October 2014)

This goes out of date (OOD) in October (a year after opening) so I want to use up as much as possible by then. I want this used up and gone as Bareminerals is not 100% cruelty free in my opinion - they are owned by a parent company that tests.

HoneyPie Minerals SPF 15 Foundation Sample

I have had this sample for ages! I really love this product, I think I was subconsciously 'saving' it so as not to finish it... not any more!

Madara Tinting Fluid (Sample)

I've had this sachet for the best part of a year... I need to just use it already!

Silk Naturals Tahiti Sweetie Bronzer (Sample)

This matte, subtle bronzer should be easy to use up.

TANF Vegan Blush in Dusky Rose (Sample)

A very generous sample sized blush that I enjoy using but want it gone now so I can use some full sized ones.

TANF Vegan Blush in Barbie (Sample)

Again, another generous sample that I want to use up. This hot pink is very different to the dusky pale rose colour above so I should be happy rotating between the two.

Zao Organics Black Liquid Liner (OOD Sept 2014)

This is pretty much at the end of it's 6 month life span so I want to use it a couple more times before it has to go.

TANF Liquid Eye Liner, Hot Fudge Brownie (OOD October 2014)

This will also be out of date soon and the brush is starting to fray so I will use this a bit more and then replace it.

Lip Sticks (All Lily Lolo OOD September) and RAL Sample

I am such an idiot for buying all of these lipsticks at the same time as they all go out of date at the same time! D'oh! The trouble with natural products is they don't have the same shelf life as they don't contain the same harsh preservatives that main stream products do. So while a regularly sanitised main stream lipstick is fine for 2-3 years a natural one will normally only last 6-12 months.

Well, I've learnt my lesson now, I will replace gradually and not buy so many! This is a real reminder why I should not buy so much make up, especially perishable make up - I simply cannot use it up in time.

There you have it, what I'm trying to use up for now and why. I will update you throughout the process and hopefully you'll see these items in empties posts very soon!

  1. I wasn't sure how to contact you otherwise but I tagged you in the Starting Over Tag. I created my own natural spin on the TAG and I thought it would be neat to see what your answers would be. I also tagged some other Natural Beauty Bloggers and Youtubers. :) Also how did you like the allnaturalface vegan eyeliner? Did it work well? -Steph

  2. I've commented on your post, I will put the tag up soon :-)
I really like TANF eyeliner, the brush looses shape really quickly but you can trim it or just keep using it as it is. I am such a novice with liquid liner so it was perfect for me, very user friendly.
