RMS Beauty - Worth The Hype?

August 20, 2014

Today I wanted to look much closer at the two RMS beauty products I own. I purchased these from Content whilst on the Field Trip Tour in early July.

In case you didn't know - I am not generally a girl who 'falls' for brand names and fancy packaging, I want a product with great ingredients that works. A 'high end' name does not make me automatically covet a product, in fact I am often put off by the price tag or disappointed as they rarely live up to my high expectations.

First up for closer inspection, my RMS Beauty Eyeshadow Cream in Magnetic:

When I bought it I knew that I was taking the risk, I had heard that they don't last very long and crease easily as they are so natural.

Turns out that is true, at least in my case anyway. I have tried everything - primers, setting powders, building up thin layers, putting thick layers on and anything else I can think of but I cannot get Magnetic to stay on my lids for more than an hour.

Bear in mind that it is the middle of August and I have only been trying this out over the summer which would be a test for any eye product. Also, you will have heard me tell you a million times that I have very oily eyelids so not many products last on my eyes, even with primer.

It is so frustrating that a beautiful product with a sizeable price tag, a lovely formulation and a brilliant list of ingredients isn't more wearable and reliable.

Having said all that... I still love it... and I don't even regret buying it.

I know, crazy right?

The only thing I can liken it to is loving a child unconditionally, no matter how naughty the child is you still love them!

I can't, in good conscience, say that I recommend this product but at the same time I am considering buying more from the range... madness I know. I don't think I actually will buy another one but I keep lusting after them anyway!

I absolutely love the colour of this Eyeshadow Cream, it is so flattering and very easy to wear. The swatch below does not do it justice:

Ingredients: (for all Eyeshadow Creams)

*Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil,*Cera Alba (Beeswax), *Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, *Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Tocopherol(non-GMO), *Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, and may contain: [+/- Titanium Dioxide CI 77891, Iron Oxides CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499,  Mica CI 77019, (*denotes organic ingredient)

Now let's look at the Lip 2 Cheek, I have the colour Modest:

I absolutely love this. Nothing I write will do this product justice. It is so easy to wear on either lips or cheeks, it is ridiculously pigmented - you have to apply with caution!

I love how pigmented this is, you really do get your money's worth with this one. At £28.00 I thought it was a bit pricey but when you experience for yourself how little you use each time then you will soon realise that you could use this every day for a year and it not run out.

I find that this lasts well on both my lips and my cheeks. When I first tried it on my lips at Content I was very impressed that it was still on my lips when we got to Wholefoods and after I had finished eating my meal - I was surprised when I saw that some had transferred onto my drinking straw. Amazing considering we had been to another store, walked half way across London(!) sat on the hottest bus ever AND I had eaten lunch. Pretty impressive.

The colour is so flattering on me and they have some other great colours to choose from as well. I will certainly be buying myself more, maybe a darker berry shade in winter.

The Lip 2 Cheek is very versatile in that different looks can be achieved by how you apply the product. When applying to my lips I sometimes just add a dab of it to slightly improve the colour of my lips or I layer it up and enjoy a really long lasting pop of colour on my lips.

Ingredients: (for all Lip2Cheek colours)
*Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil,*Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, *Cera Alba (Beeswax), *Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), *Simmondsia Chinesis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, *Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, *Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernal Oil, Tocopherol(non-GMO), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Propolis Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, *Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract, and may contain: [+/- Titanium Dioxide CI 77891, Iron Oxides CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499,  Mica CI 77019.
Please note: smile contains 0.2% safe synthetic colour

*organic ingredients

Is RMS worth the hype?

Yes - they use excellent ingredients that yield beautiful results. If you have oily lids I would not recommend the Eyeshadow Cream but there is no denying that it is a beautiful product. I would suggest every make-up wearer purchase a Lip 2 Cheek as I am sure you will be very happy!

I've heard great things about the Un-Cover Up but I don't have any plans to buy that yet although I would love to try it as I've heard so many rave about it.

What do you think? Do you agree with me? Do you own any RMS products and how do you find them?

  1. Modest is sooooo pretty! I'm glad I didn't buy the eyeshadows, even though they are SO pretty I knew it would have been a waste!

  2. Oh wow the RMS Lip2cheeks have been on my wish list for the longest time now, I find it so hard to part with my cash on makeup it's weird as I'm to fork out on skincare, this shade you have looks gorgeous they seem like they can be used sheer or built up...think I'm sold :) xx

  3. I have the Un-Cover Up and the bronzer. Not sure what I was thinking when I got the Bronzer, as I'm not usually using bronzer, so that was a waste. The product itself it's nice, but my opinion is that it works better for medium/darker skin tones than mine (fair/medium). The Un-Cover Up was given to my mom, as I have oily skin and this product just melted off my face. Not impressed! I also tried a Magnetic sample, but my skin absorbed the product within an hour... Might give Lip2cheeks a try, but for my RMS wasn't a win.. xx

  7. No I haven't, good idea! Thank you!!
I think I would like the lip shines too as I love how Modest is on the lips (texture, formula, colour pay off, etc) so I think I would always consider their lip or cream products :-) xx

  9. Oh dear, not a great result for you! :-( I do hear very mixed reviews of the uncover up and generally hear better reviews from those with dry skin, not those with oily. Rach xx

  12. I own RMS smile lip2cheek and have used it every single day for over a year and it's still going strong - the jars seem to last forever so worth it. I can't deal with creasy eyeshadow so have passed on those.
