Chia Seed Drink

Back in the day when this blog was a tiny little fledgling thing (and no one was reading it) I wrote a post raving about Chia Seeds. One of the more popular videos on my channel is a Chia Seed Energy Drink video which shows you how to DIY your own Mamma Chia drink.

I thought I would re-visit these two ideas and bring them together in one post/video and tell you all about why I LOVE chia seeds and how I like to use them.

Why eat chia seeds?
  • They are almost always organic (the high oil content of their leaves serves as a natural insect repellent)
  • Can help reduce glucose levels
  • Good source of Omega-3 fatty acids (increases brain function and decrease depression)
  • Rich in anti-oxidants

  • Very neutral flavour

  • They help manage and/or stop sugar cravings

  • High in calcium, magnesium and manganese

  • Excellent source of fibre
  • It contains ALL eight essential amino acids
To help put you in the picture, here are some nutritional comparisons. Each 2 tbsp serving of chia offers:

  • Five times the omega-3 content of a 1/4-cup serving of walnuts
  • Twice the iron and magnesium of a cup of spinach
  • As much calcium as a half-cup of milk
  • As much potassium as a third of a banana
  • More than twice the fibre of a cup of oatmeal



They are one of my favourite 'natural' discoveries and I have been enjoying them for well over a year now as a natural supplement. I've seen really changes to my energy levels plus my hair and my nails look better than ever.
