Schmidt's Deodorant Review

January 23, 2015

Have you heard the hype around this deodorant?!

It took America by storm a few months ago and I heard all about it from the many American Bloggers and Youtubers I follow... so of course I have been eager to try this one out for myself.

I was SO excited to hear that A Beautiful World have started stocking Schmidt's Deodorant... even more excited when I was offered the chance to try it out for myself.

"Baking Soda and Arrowroot powder combine with essential oils to provide a powerful anti-bacterial formula proven to neutralise underarm odour and absorb excess moisture - all without the use of aluminium or other undesirable pore-clogging chemicals."

At £12.50 for a 2oz pot it's not exactly cheap but it comes in a lovely glass jar, with a spatula for application and it will last you a really long time as a little goes a long way.

I chose the citrusly delightful Bergamot + Lime scent but there are plenty of others to chose from including; Cedarwood + Juniper, Ylang Ylang + Calendula, Lavender + Sage and a Fragrance Free option.

Ingredients:

Butyrospermum parkii (shea butter)
Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
Maranta arundinacea (arrowroot) powder
Theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter
Citrus bergamia (bergamot) essential oil
Citrus aurantifolia (lime) essential oil
Tocopherol (vitamin E)
Humulus lupulus (hop) extract

Squeaky clean right?? Obviously you'll have to be careful if you are sensitive to baking soda (a lot of people are) but otherwise the ingredients are very natural and 'clean'.

Performance:

I've tried plenty of natural deodorants and a lot have fallen short. I never would of considered myself a 'stinky' person until I tried to go natural! Ha ha!

I've been really impressed by Schmidt's it works very well at keeping my underarms fresh and free of foul smells, I think they are slightly direr as well. I've tested it on long, hot days in my busy reception job under both heat and emotional stress. Impressively it flew through this test with flying colours.

My Opinion:

I love both the scent and the performance of this deodorant, I'm a big fan!

Some people might be put off by the application method - you need to use the scoop/spatula to get it out of the pot then you have to warm it up between your fingers and apply it to your underarm by hand. Personally this doesn't bother me- if I am putting deodorant on then my underarms are clean so it's no different to applying a moisturiser.

The only point I would make is that the deodorant is quite solid and a bit difficult to get out of the tub, I think it is made worse by the temperature at this time of year! This doesn't put me off but it is a bit frustrating and I thought it was worth a mention.

I'd like to try it for a bit longer to be sure that I don't get any soreness or issues after a couple of months of use but at the moment I would confidently recommend this to you and I'd strongly consider re-purchasing.

If you're unsure but want to give it a go you can try out a 0.5oz sample for just £4.50 - Schmidt's is available exclusively at A Beautiful World.

  3. I really need to start my hunt again, I love the Jason Tea Tree deodorant and the Salt of the earth deodorant but for working out I need something more hardcore I've seen myself returning to Dove *slaps wrist* this one sounds really nice though the pot method doesn't bother me too much. Do you find that this leaves white marks on dark clothing? xx

  6. Fantastic that they do samples! I've had so many deo fails since going natural, a sample option is a real bonus especially as the full size is not cheap. Lovely range of scents too. 😊

  9. Hmm... It's a tough one, I think this one may well stand up pretty well against a work out... but to be honest I don't normally worry about my smell at the gym though! lol ... I won't be meeting my next squeeze there at this rate will I?!? haha!
I haven't noticed marks on dark clothes but I have been applying it very lightly. xx

  10. Yeah a lot of people have the same issue, it can be so harsh on that sensitive area. Luckily I've never had that problem but I know loads do xx

  11. I'm keen to smell and try the other scents! The application does bother me a bit, I wonder if it will be easier in the summer?! Someone on YT told me she rubs it in her fingers first to soften it to a paste before application, still tricky and not deal though.
I'm lucky I don't react to baking soda, I can use it all the time... phew!
    Rach xx

  13. Yeah I think the sample option is a huge plus point, it's quite a lot of money to drop on something that you don't know how well will work... erm, my English failed me there but you know what I mean! ha ha! It's a really well presented product - nice label, glass jar, great scent, etc. xx
