Benecos - New Vegan Make Up - Review and (UK) Giveaway!!

February 28, 2015

How exciting!

Not only are Benecos a European, Cruelty Free and affordable brand but they also now have created and released a VEGAN line of high quality make up.

The range includes an Eyeshadow Quattro, two Mascaras and an Eyebrow Pencil.

I was lucky enough to be sent the Eyeshadow Quattro and the Wonder Mascara (in Steel Grey) to try out... but not only that I am also able to offer both of those products to one of you lucky guys too! The kind people at Benecos have put aside a quad and a mascara for one lucky UK based reader/subscriber to win! How generous of them :-)

You guys know that something being a 'PR Sample' does not guarantee it a glowing (or even good!) review from me, I am always measured and honest in my posts/videos so let's dive in for a closer look at these two vegan products:

Vegan Wonder Mascara in Steel Grey - £7.95

Here are the benefits of Benecos Vegan Wonder Mascara as copied from their website:
  • Volumise, lengthens and defines lashes
  • Stylish steel grey shade
  • Clump free formula
  • Tapered brush allows for extra volume into the lashes
  • Contains Vitamin E to moisturise and care for your lashes
  • Certified vegan

I would agree with all of the above, and I would certainly add 'long lasting' and 'flake/smudge free' to the list as well.

One thing I did notice that is just something to be aware of - it stays 'wet' for quite a while after application so you do have to wait a bit longer for it to dry so that it doesn't go everywhere if you look up... or sneeze!

I would say that it isn't THE most volumising or lengthening mascara I've tried (I love my Avril one too much, nothing seems to compare) but I would say that it certainly does make a difference to your lashes.
Top = bare lashes
Bottom = Two coats
As you can see, not a dramatic difference but a difference nonetheless, I think you can agree that my lashes do look longer, thicker and more defined. I like the lovely, soft effect thanks to the Steel Grey colour.

You can see it being applied in my video.

I was a bit worried about the wand shape and size, it looked a bit big and scary! But when I actually used it I found that it holds the lashes nicely and applies a very even, clump free coat of mascara. I agree with Benecos that the shape of the tapered brush does help with application and it may well allow for extra volume as you can get right in at the roots of your lashes.

I really love that is is a grey colour, I am a big fan of my Green People City Eyeliner in Grey and these two work great together for a more subtle, day time look instead of a heavy, darker look created with black liner and mascara.

Of course this is all down to personal preference but I would say this is a very good, very solid mascara that will look nice and stay put all day. It won't give you that 'false lash effect' but it will look subtle and stylish... and not melt all over your face throughout the day!

I'm really glad that a UK/European company is stepping up and giving us an affordable yet effective mascara option... that's vegan too!

I'm keen to try out the other mascara in the new range. (Vegan Volume Mascara)

Ingredients:

SALVIA SCLAREA (CLARY) FLOWER/LEAF/STEM WATER*, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, GLYCERIN*, ACACIA SENEGAL GUM, BRASSICA CAMPESTRIS/ALEURITES FORDII OIL COPOLYMER, GLYCERYL ROSINATE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, SILICA, MAGNESIUM ALUMINUM SILICATE, GLYCERYL CAPRYLATE, OLEIC/LINOLEIC/LINOLENIC POLYGLYCERIDES, POTASSIUM PALMITOYL HYDROLYZED WHEAT PROTEIN, TOCOPHEROL, AQUA (WATER), SORBITAN OLIVATE, CETEARYL OLIVATE, CETYL PALMITATE, SORBITAN PALMITATE, PERSEA GRATISSIMA (AVOCADO) OIL*, XANTHAN GUM, CI 77499 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE), CI 77007 (ULTRAMARINES), CI 77820 (SILVER)

Eyeshadow Quattro - £6.95

Benefits of benecos Quattro Eyeshadow in Coffee and Cream, copied from the Benecos website:
  • Highlights, contours, lines and defines your eyes
  • Powder eyeshadow in 4 gorgeous natural shades
  • Contains nourishing organic Macadamia and Sunflower Oils to keep the delicate skin around your eyes moisturised and cared for
  • Long lasting colour
  • Perfect for a natural smokey eye look
  • Beautiful natural shades to create an array of eye looks
  • BDIH Certified
  • Suitable for Vegans

Again, I'd wholeheartedly agree with all of Benecos' claims here. This is a little gem of a palette and at just £6.95 I'd recommend it to everyone! It's a staple to have in your make up bag. I was hugely impressed by the soft and buttery feel of these, even more so when I realised how inexpensive the palette is!

I have oily lids and most shadows met off me pretty quickly. These do seem to be longer lasting than others I have tried but they are certainly not infallible. If you have normal to slightly oily lids then you are probably onto a winner with these shadows.

They are very pigmented as well, which surprised me again! (I clearly had low expectations! Oops!) Obviously the very light colour doesn't show up very boldly but that is completely to be expected, the darker colours need only the lightest dusting on the brush to show up well on your lids.

I think this is a 'must have' kind of product - a great selection of colours, superb pigmentation, good lasting power and all at under £7! You can't go wrong.

These two were my first proper try of a Benecos product and I have been thoroughly impressed and am keen to try more soon!

  5. I was just looking at these yesterday! I wasn't sure how a grey mascara would look, but it's better than I thought :) The packaging reminds me a lot of the Avril one with the green and black! My only hesitation with the product is that the main ingredient is talc, but the pigmentation looks good xx

  8. yeah, I was a bit worried about grey but it actually looks really nice, I think it's a softer, more daytime look.
Yeah... the talc issue is a weird one for me... my main issue with talc is that it's a cheap filler so I refuse to buy an expensive product that contains talc because you are paying all that money for a cheap ingredient! I know there are some concerns over the safety of talc and I used to be really strict about it but I am a bit more relaxed about it these days as I'm not convinced it is 'the devil' haha! xx
